Hello, I'm Tom Watts with the BBC News.

Ukraine says one of its soldiers has been killed and four others injured after Russian-backed separatists in the eastern Donetsk region launched an attack on army positions. The pro-Russian rebels blamed the attack by Ukrainian troops for the flare-up. The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has arrived in Ethiopia, where he'll hold talks with the Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. It's Mr. Pompeo's last stop on his tour of Africa. Kalkidan Yibeltal reports from Addis Ababa.

Security is one of the issues Secretary Pompeo is expected to discuss with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in a country that's a key US partner in the fight against terrorism across the horn of Africa, particularly in tackling the trace of Addis Ababa. Also on the agenda will be the $5 billion Renaissance Dam. It's already under construction in Western Ethiopia and causing conflict with another US ally, Egypt.

A Dutch court has upheld an appeal by shareholders of the bankrupt Russian oil company Yukos in a long-awaited ruling, boosting their fight in a $50 billion case for compensation. The appeals court in the Hague decided that a previous ruling in favor of the Russian federation was incorrect. The court said the original $50 billion compensation awarded was in force again.

Turkish state media say the authorities have ordered the arrest of hundreds of people suspected of connections with the movement blamed for a failed coup attempt in 2016. The report said at least 50 people have already been detained during the current operation that's taking place in 15 Turkish cities.

The Boy Scouts of America has filed for bankruptcy protection. The spokesman said the move would allow the group to keep running as it faces increasing legal costs related to allegations of sexual abuse. Electra Naysmith reports.

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the biggest youth organizations in the United States and one of the oldest, but financial pressures are growing. It's facing a surge in lawsuits over its handling of sexual abuse allegations. The organization has records dating back over a century. Lawyers argue those records hit the abuse problem and left scouts at risk. One victim's group has found nearly 2000 complainants ranging in age from 8 to 93. A scout spokesman said bankruptcy protection meant victims could be compensated. He apologized sincerely to anyone who was harmed.

An explosion on a road in southwest Colombia is reported to have killed at least seven people and wounded several others. It's not clear what caused the blast on the pan-American highway in the Cauca district, one of the country's most violent regions. The authorities now say the incident was not a deliberate attack, despite initially blaming it on a car bomb. Dissident rebels and drugs gangs have clashed with both the military and indigenous groups in the area.
